“An evening gown can be comfortable, too. The best pieces combine practicality and luxury.”

BLACK GOWN WITH PAILLETTE HAND EMBROIDERY AND MARABOU FEATHERS

This black jersey halter gown debuted on the Fall 2000 runway, worn by American model Maggie Rizer. When it was first designed, the all-over paillette hand-embroidery and fur trim made the gown quite heavy. Michael explains, “Over the last 20 years, we’ve all become used to everything we wear feeling comfortable and having the ease of a T-shirt.” For the 40th Anniversary Collection, the designer lightened the attitude of the dress and swapped the trim for frothy marabou feathers to give it a more modern feel without losing any of its over-the-top opulence.
